A VOIP phone system means Voice over Internet Protocol. This phone system delivers voice communications over the internet and other IP networks instead of the public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Conference calling, IVR, call forwarding, automatic redial, and caller ID features that traditional telecommunication companies normally charge extra for are available free of charge from open source VOIP implementations.
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a general term for a family of transmission technologies for delivery of voice communications over IP networks such as the Internet or other packet-switched networks.
Compared to other services, Voice over Internet Protocol (Voip) costs are lower, mainly because of the way Internet access is billed compared to regular telephone calls. It is more over so flexible where it can transmit more than one telephone call over a single broadband connection without the need to add extra lines. Hardware SIP / VOIP phones not only look like regular telephones but also function just like them. They contain an integrated mini hub and are directly connected to the data network of the computer, thereby sharing the network connection.
